I create abstract paintings and mixed media works inspired by textures, layering, patterns, words, and nature. During my painting process I love to incorporate different types of materials to create texture and layers. I have a series of paintings of feathers where I use actual feathers to paint with.
In 2006 I received a BFA in painting with a double minor in Art Education and Art History from UMass Amherst. In 2011 I earned my MEd from Lesley University for Curriculum and Instruction through the Arts. I recently finished a huge passion project of writing and illustrating my children's book Happy Accidents. Visit www.amygreencarter.com for more information on my book.
As an art educator I love the idea of recycling the hard work of my students, in many paintings I reuse their pencil shavings to create a textural quality into my works. It reminds me of all the faces, excitement and energy I see out of my artists and how they inspire me. When I use a material I like to remember its original intent and transform it into my work.
Some works have paper, text and even broken mirror. My text works have texture within each letter. Many of these style paintings have been given as gifts for weddings, anniversaries and significant moments. Custom paintings with specific colors palates, text or dates can be created upon request.
